The Backlog series mixes up older soul and disco tracks with house. Backlog3 starts out downbeat with a slice of dub that’s a personal favorite from the Stalagg label, the somewhat ubiquitous Red Astaire bootleg and then Sly & The Family Stones Family Affair. If its been a while since you heard Family Affair then listen, those lazy smacked out vocals and the subtle instrumentation work together in the sort of way that makes me short of breath. Then it’s on to a mix from house into disco and back before we crash back to earth with another shot at Red Astaire. Massive tunes from RSL, Beanfield and Isolee follow and then the mix tapers off with a little rare groove and hip-hop (admittedly a gimmicky mix from Don’t Look Any Further to Paid In Full)… Finally there’s that magical tune from Bohannon… ahhhh.
